How Latisse® Works
The secret behind Latisse® eye lash growth is its active ingredient known as bimatoprost, which changes the growth phase of your eyelash hair cycle. Latisse® not only increases the duration of the growth phase, it also increases the number of hairs that are actively growing at any given time, resulting in thicker, darker eyelashes.
Latisse® is a prescription medication that you will use at home. You will apply Latisse® by dabbing it with a sterile brush applicator to your upper lash lines each night.
You should not apply Latisse® to your lower lashes. It will automatically be transferred to your lower lashes when you blink. Additionally, your face should be cleansed prior to application and your contacts should be removed.
*Applicators are disposable and you can discard them after a single use.
In a Phase III clinical study, Latisse® solution users experienced statistically significant improvements in eyelash prominence at the end of the 16-week timeframe, including:
- = 1-grade improvement on a 4-point Global Eyelash Assessment Scale
- 25% increase in length of their eyelashes
- 106% increase in thickness/fullness of their eyelashes
- 18% increase in darkness of their eyelashes
Is Latisse® Safe?
The FDA reviewed clinical study results to verify the identity, potency, purity, and stability of the ingredients, and demonstrated that the product is safe and effective if used as prescribed under a doctor’s care. Latisse® was well tolerated in the clinical study and the most common side effects after using solution are an itching sensation in the eyes and/or eye redness. This was reported in approximately 4% of patients.
Latisse® (bimatoprost ophthalmic solution) 0.03% may cause other less common side effects which typically occur on the skin close to where Latisse® solution is applied, or in the eyes. These include skin darkening, eye irritation, dryness of the eyes, and redness of the eyelids. If you experience any of these side effects, contact Infinity Medical Institute.
